David Carson is a graphic designer, and art director and is best known for his chaotic, and experimental approach to typography. Carson is recognized for "breaking the rules" and redefining artistry through illegibility and new cultural style.
In the TED talk Carson speaks very humorously of his presentation and how he perceives design. I learned that the perception of design and how people take in the art before they even read anything, is one of the most important aspects of our job. The design has to speak before the type speaks for us.
Carson also touched base on the fact that design has gotten simpler and is beginning to make a full turn around and advance toward the expressive. Lots of Carson's work is expressive and overlaps the realm of chaos and art, and its purely innovative with its way of expression.
and yes...he's got a big ego too. but i like his ideas/thoughts about how form expresses meaning. the connotative :-)
